Default DAT file recompress option

Just for the sake of file management. I use the -image flag all the time to keep my dat file updated and decompressed, but at 5.38Gb it becomes a real pain to backup and move around.
So how about a similar option to update but compress the file instead? It would save some backup space, and wouldn't need a dual-layer dvd for burning.

Comments?

This topic would relate to my other thread (which I am getting bombarded on):

One of the reasons for it being for the sake of backup space and time

Kinda, but I'm just suggesting to add the ability to compress your current and updated dat file.

I can see them pruning but I can't see how they would compress the .dat file. (Unless your willing to put up with even longer loading times)

It should be 3.2 Gb.

I'd suggest deleting it and redownloading everything. Since you're using -image, I'd assume network bandwidth isn't a problem.

But then after awhile it will grow bigger than the 'standard' .dat file again. Then you have to keep performing uninstall/reinstall?

I heard that, and redownloaded it twice, both where +5Gb. :|
Still, it would be nice to be able to handle smaller files.

The image has to be at least partially decompress to be used, compressing it would only be for file management.
